Finding grey literature using BASE

Answer

BASE is a search engine for academic web resources operated by Bielefeld University Library.

  1. Select the Advanced Search option.
  2. Use a separate search field to add key terms for each concept of your topic.
  3. You can select a field to search for results using the dropdown, i.e. where your search terms are the main subject headings or appear in the title or appear anywhere within the entire document. (You may want to perform more than one search using different field combinations).
  4. In the Linguistic Tools section select the Additional word forms radio button so that your search will also include additional forms of your search terms, such as plurals.
  5. In the Document Type section select those resources which come under the category of grey literature i.e. choose the checkboxes for Conference object; Report; Course material; Lecture and Doctoral and postdoctoral thesis.
  6. Select the Search button.

The BASE Advanced Search options described in list steps 1 to 6 above.
